Signs You Need to Replace Your Hot Water Heater

Water heaters play an important role in your home. To help your water heater last longer and keep it (and your hot water) running smoothly, regular maintenance is essential.

Here are some of the signs that you may need to replace your hot water heater, from Oak Plumbing, your local tankless water heater installer expert.

Very Low Water Temperature

For most people, 120 degrees Fahrenheit is a comfortable temperature at which to set the hot water heater, though the factory setting is generally around 140 degrees. You may need to replace your water heater if the thermostat is kept at the appropriate temperature but you’re still not getting hot water.

An Aging Hot Water Heater

The components of an old hot water heater often need repaired or replaced. To determine if it’s time to replace your water check the the manufacturer’s label on the side of the heater. The date and serial number should be stamped on it.

Odd Noises

Old water heaters can start making rumbling or clicking noises, indicating that they may not be functioning properly. At Oak Plumbing, our team can perform a plumbing inspection to determine any issues and recommend the best solution for your water heater.

Damaged Dip Tube

A broken dip tube can be the reason you’re not getting any hot water. The dip tube pushes cold water toward the bottom for it to be heated. With a damaged dip tube, cold water will enter the pipes if it’s not pushed down to the bottom.

Leaks

A leaking water heater must be repaired or replaced immediately. Otherwise, it could result in water damage around your home, as well as significantly increase your utility costs. Regular inspections can help in detecting the early signs of a leak.
