Clogged Overflow Tube

The location of the puddle can help determine the cause of the leak. A clogged overflow tube is often the cause of leaks at the front of a top-load washer. 

Soft Water

Oversudsing can be an issue if you have a water softening system, in which case you’ll need to use less detergent. You can determine if you’re using too much detergent by soaking a freshly washed item in a bowl of hot water. You’re using excessive detergent if the water becomes sudsy. 

Overloading 

Your washing machine can leak if it’s overloaded or improperly balanced. Check to see if your washer is level, then reduce the load size. You may have fixed the issue if the leaking doesn’t happen again. If the leaking persists, however, you’ll need to contact your local plumbing repair company for a proper assessment.

Spray Rinse Function

Interrupting the cycle of a washer that has a spray rinse function can be another cause of leakage. Also, manually advancing the timer can cause the function to go on longer than needed, resulting in overflow. 

Drain Hose

A leak around the drain hose can mean that it’s clogged. You’ll have to remove the manufacturer’s drain plug before checking the drain hose. You should see a plastic plug which will need to be removed. Remember to prepare a bucket and towels to catch any excess water. It may also be that the drain hose isn’t adequately secured in the drain pipe, so check to make sure it’s fully attached.
